About Daniel Mann
From entrepreneur to web development and SEO expert.
My Journey
My name is Daniel Mann, and I bring over 15 years of experience running my own businesses and advising others. My journey has been shaped by a relentless focus on improving efficiency, solving problems for customers and suppliers, and innovating to overcome challenges.
Through necessity and determination, I’ve taught myself business planning, web design, SEO, and product data management. These skills were driven by a desire to make processes cost-effective and efficient, allowing me to thrive in competitive markets without breaking the bank.
From Apprentice to Entrepreneur
I started as an apprentice Ford technician, fueled by a passion for cars. In 2008, after qualifying, I faced the uncertainty of the recession and job layoffs. Struggling to find work, I took on a cleaning job while planning my next steps.
This led to my first business as a self-employed cleaner. During this time, I discovered that offices were discarding unused items like ink and toner cartridges. I saw an opportunity, and this sparked the creation of my first company, Ink Smart.
Building Businesses Through Innovation
With Ink Smart, I quickly learned the importance of having the right tools to succeed. To scale the business, I taught myself how to build websites, bulk-import product data, and use platforms like eBay and Amazon. Managing thousands of products meant mastering the art of data efficiency—creating product listings with Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPN) and EANs.
This knowledge paved the way for my next venture: a partnership in the printing business. I rented UV printers and laser cutters, initially targeting business-to-business sales of promotional pens. However, I realized the inefficiencies in producing large quantities for minimal profit.
Instead, I pivoted to focus on personalized products. I developed a website selling novelty pens—perfect Secret Santa gifts—with custom names and quirky movie quotes or profanities. This turned a simple 10p pen into a £4.99 product. The idea took off during Christmas, and my company, Uveeka, was born.
Lessons Learned and Personal Growth
Uveeka grew rapidly. Expanding from pens to bottles and notepads, I became a top seller on platforms like Amazon. Products like “Love Island bottles” brought massive success, and I learned the power of efficiency—finding ways to handle the workload of three people on my own.
When my daughter was born with a heart condition, my priorities shifted. I wanted to work closer to home, avoid long hours, and create a better work-life balance. This led me to transition my skills into a new phase of my career: helping businesses with web development, SEO, product scraping, and strategic problem-solving.
